INWARDS, UPWARDS, AND EVERYWHERE
My inspiration for this series came from an online art collective called "Zoomquilt." Zoomquilt is a collaborative project amongst artists from all different countries and styles in which they each created one portion of a "never-ending" tunnel. (http://www.zoomquilt.org/) The reason I was so intrigued by this was because I find it fascinating how the design of a piece of artwork can manipulate the eye into percieving direction (Movement, as defined by "The Art of Seeing the World Around You") Though I did have quite a few photos that suggested movement on their own, I wanted to incorporate some sort of enhancement to further my point. Thus, I manipulated the photos using a photoshop technique called "Fractualizing." During this editing process, I discovered that I could also experiment with other directions of moment, hence the title, "Inwards, Upwards, and Everywhere." On a personal note, this series not only revolves around visual movement, but movement through the phases of my life this semester. I've found that through the process of maturing, I have gone inwards, upwards, and everywhere. I've gone inwards, chasing my goals. In the "Inwards" portion of the series, the pictures are meant to depict movement towards a particular destination, in many cases, this destination is a source of light (Ex. the sun or the moon). I've gone upwards, progressing towards success. In the "Upwards" portion of the series, the pictures depict movement upwards, which I chose to represent with places of great importance (Ex. the sky (the heavens) or the top of skyscrapers (the penthouses)). Lastly, I have gone everywhere, lost in the confusion of this stage in my life. These pictures depict an array of different and contrasting motions, representing my difficulty and incertainty during this awkward phase of early adulthood.
